OFGC Organizer's Comments - October 2009 My vision when I started the Ohio Fingerstyle Guitar Club back in Feb '1999 was to find a core group of finger style guitar players and fans within a few hours drive from Columbus, Ohio and give them a forum to get together every now and then and share their passion of guitar - and, to give them a treat by inviting some of the best guitarists in the world to come play for us. And, it worked that way - for awhile. However, our Pickin' Parties have pretty much turned into "concerts" where I continually sweat out their financial success, and not much of the "sharing of our passions." Now, I'll admit that I probably created this "concert" mentality when I decided to start inviting Guest Pickers to come play for us for the somewhat devious purpose of "attracting enough attendees to help pay the facilities and advertising costs." I should have been more active in finding cheaper or "free" space to hold our meetings - or, a few sponsors to help offset the costs - but, it's obvious that isn't my forte. So, we will be taking a break from having Pickin'
Parties for awhile. I'm actively pursuing a formal relationship
with the Worthington Arts Council for the "reasonable"
use of their beautiful new Peggy
McConnell Arts Complex In the meantime, a few of us local Columbus "pickers" will continue to get together every Tuesday night at Scotties Coffee House, 660 High Street, Worthington, Ohio from 7 -10 to "share our pickin' with each other." We've been meeting there every Tuesday for over 8 years.... Come on in and jam with us. Keep on pickin, Palmer Moore - Organizer |
